The Café, which opens its doors from 10 PM to 7 AM seven nights a week, began as a collaboration between Bethesda Project and Broad Street Ministry. Its capacity is 50 people, stretched to 75 on nights when severe weather triggers a "Code Blue" call by the City of Philadelphia. Café guests get not only the basics – soup, coffee, a friendly greeting and a place to get out of the cold – but also opportunities to engage with Bethesda staff and volunteers and get support services and referrals.
